Never Be Cold Again!Review by Winterlover
I got this jacket about 10 years ago for winter camping and peakbagging in northern New England, and showshoe camping in Canada. It has not disappointed; I just put it on and am instantly warm, no matter how cold it is (-35 with 40 MPH wind, no problem...) It only weighs 2 pounds, stuffs into a small bag, and could save your life, not to mention your winter trip. Awesome pockets! The double front zipper is a nice touch, and a good safety feature as well. I honestly would have given up on winter camping years ago if not for this coat. Now, it is still fun. Also handy for the occasional polar vortex walk to the bus stop! (Posted on 1/3/2018)
must have for cold weatherReview by Isaac
I purchased the Icefall parka in Seattle in 2003 before moving to Whitehorse Yukon. Best choice ever.! It is almost too warm. If you are going to do any exercise i would only wear a t shirt under this jacket. I have been out in minus 30c in a short sleeve shirt and have been fine. The coldest was 46 below not counting windchill and the jacket performed incredibly well. It weighs nothing but the insane bulk does take getting use to specially when driving a car. It is almost comical. I have never had a single problem with the jacket. The snow flies off the slippery outer shell. Speaking of the outer shell i was very worried because it seemed so thin but let me tell you it is tough. I have snagged the coat on bushes and trees in the Yukon back country and have not a mark on the coat to show for it !! In summary This is a must have potentially life saving garment if you plan on spending lots of time in very cold environments. Also its comfort is unmatched (Posted on 12/28/2017)
No other jacket is warmerReview by albert
I've tried a few different brands of jackets - Helly Hansen, Columbia, Tommy Hilfiger, North Face. There is no other coat warmer than this one. I live in Canada so we get pretty frigid temperatures. One time while waiting for a bus, the temperature was -55 Fahrenheit with the windchill. I was 'a little cool' in this jacket so that gives you an idea of how warm it is. It also breathes very well. I can wear it in a mall and not sweat.

There are a few minor issues. The hood is not the best. It tends to be a bit loose. Like the previous review indicated, the elbows tend to be a bit cool. I didn't realize that customer service would take care of this issue. It is also a large jacket but on the humorous side, people were intrigued and wanted to run into me to see how it felt.

Customer service is also very good. (Posted on 12/8/2016)
Most versatile winter jacket for everythingReview by Occasional user
I bought it for my wife 15 years ago. She still uses it for every winter occasion including skiing. I had no idea it can last so long. The best features are: very warm but the comfort temperature easily controlled by unzipping, huge pockets for spare mittens, chopsticks, sunscreen, extra warmers and socks for kids, etc., compresses to a very small size to fit into a carry on for flights, very light, deceptively sturdy, great hood with flaps that protects in a freezing wind, long enough to cover bottom providing wind protection and comfortable sitting on chairlifts. Put it on in the most miserable freezing windy weather and you will feel like you are in a very moderate and pleasant conditions just enjoying the outdoors. Amazing transformation. Well worth the investment. (Posted on 10/10/2016)
True Warmth & Comfort!Review by Sal on the Mountain
After searching extensively, and doing lots of research on the web, I finally decided that I would give the Icefall a go. WOW, very pleased with the quality and performance of this garment! I live at 9,000 ft. in the Colorado Rockies and at this altitude the winter can see extremes of 55 degrees above, to 15 - 20 degrees below. It wasn't until recently that I could put this parka to the test with 0 degree- 40 mph winds. I hunt year-round, and own some very high quality hunting clothing. Nothing in that arsenal can even come close to the protection and comfort that the Icefall provides. I will be buying some over-sized camo shells to wear over the Icefall, as THIS parka is the best that I have experienced at enabling me to stay out for extended periods in horrifically bitter weather. As a suggestion: I would urge the makers to produce parkas in a camo design, say Realtree, or something in the Sitka Gear design. Hats off to "Feathered Friends"! (Posted on 2/3/2016)
I love itReview by Jonathan S.
I've waited about 12 years to write a review on this parka. Living in S. California, I don't really ever use it here, and most of the trekking I do is to places not cold enough to warrant such a garment. However, I just returned from arctic Alaska (Bettles, Anaktuvuk Pass) in the winter, and this baby held its own down to minus 30. In fact, this being the coldest weather I've felt, I was quite amazed how warm I was in the Icefall Parka (paired with the Frontpoint Pants). Even the local Alaskans were admiring my choice of clothing. I've had this thing on Ojos del Salado in Chile as well, where it wasn't as cold, but the altitude and wind make it seem worse, and it was also perfectly wonderful there as well. My only complaint is the removable hood. It's always coming unsnapped. There's hardly ever a time when you need such a jacket that you DON'T require a hood, so I don't understand why they make it removable. It's just a hassle. I'm going to have it sewn in, once and for all. (Posted on 1/25/2016)
OutstandingReview by Steve fenton
I live in Chicago and use this jacket exclusively in the winter. Wind chills frequently mean sub zero temperatures. I am always toasty warm and rarely need to wear a layer underneath the jacket. Outstanding build quality. My second down jacket from feathered friends. (Posted on 2/15/2015)
Simply the BestReview by Emerel
It took a long time to decide to spent this much money on a winter garment. Now that I have had the opportunity to use it in extreme conditions I don't regret my decision. This is the warmest, best made thing I have ever owned. I use it as an "if needed" level of protection on long, remote hikes in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Its also great for around camp when overnighting or going for a walk in the moonlight in the dead of winter. I love it. (Posted on 2/2/2015)
Excellent Customer ServiceReview by John
I ordered this jacket but felt the arms had some cold spots where the elbow bends. Any other company would have said sorry that's too bad. Catherine at Feathered Friends sent me a new jacket while letting me continue to use the one i was having problems with! The new customized jacket has more down in the inner elbow area. Wearing this thing in 22 degree weather for 2 hours, i felt like was standing on the beach in the summer. It's by far the warmest jacket i have ever experienced and i have tried quite a few. Also i was so cold during the polar vortex last year i was wearing 2 shirts, 3 sweaters, 3 coats all at once. I am very cold natured, but i don't see that being a problem anymore. The only things i would improve upon the design would be in the hood. I have a really large neck and fairly big head. While the icefall hood fits, it is very tight especially if i have a pack on. Also the hood only has one tightening string which goes straight across the top. This design digs the string into my head which is not very comfortable. I wish the hood could be made a bit larger and had strings on either side and not just one side. Arcteryx makes the only hoods i can really feel comfortable in given this issue. However these are minor complaints. I wanted something VERY warm and this is what i have. Thanks to Feathered Friends and especially Catherine for making me a friend/customer for life.
