Spoonbill UL Sleeping Bag

While the inspiration for this bag came from the fast and light climbing styles of our top athletes, the Spoonbill has become a favorite across many outdoor pursuits. The spoonbill is the perfect solution for the outdoor enthusiast who is looking to significantly lighten their load while not compromising on comfort or performance for two, especially with the lighweight Pertex® Endurance® fabric.

The award winning design allows two people to share the thermal benefit of being in the same bag while maintaining the efficiency of an independent contoured hood and collar that can be adjusted with no impact to the other user. Half length zippers on each side provide access without disturbing your partner. The real weight savings comes from eliminating the unnecessary insulation on the bottom half; the floor is comprised of a single layer of our Nano Shield fabric. Use the sleeping pads of your choice on the outside or a closed cell pad can be cut to the interior dimensions.

UL: Ultralight. Pertex® Endurance® 10 denier water-resistant/breathable fabric.

There is limited availability for the Spoonbill UL. Once limited stock is sold, more will become available Spring 2019.

Pros, cons, advice (bottom line-this is an amazing bag!)Review by Kat
My husband and I bought this bag for ski touring in Norway last March. We slept in -15 F on snow and I was warm enough, which is amazing, because I'm always cold. The pros of this bag are that it is light and warm. The cons for people who want to cuddle is that the hoods are permanently separated, so while your body is in the same compartment as your partner, your head is not. Keep in mind that this feature is what makes the bag so warm; you can get tight seals around each person's face and trap all the heat inside. Also, this might be a pro for climbing partners who aren't romantic and want the warmth of sharing a bag without the awkwardness. This bag is truly amazing and we will use it for all our winter backcountry adventuring. One more thing--don't mess around with two pads. You will be way warmer if you get one double pad; Exped makes an R-value 5 double pad that weighs 37 oz (the Synmat HL Duo Winter M). It's well worth it. When using two pads, cold air wafts up between them; I was cold in 0 degree F. With the one double pad, I was warm in -15 degree F. (Posted on 5/18/2017)
Best bag ever ownedReview by Anze von Freeapproved
Spoonbill is the latest addition to my ever growing FF down arsenal. I have recently tested the Spoonbill and I and my climbing buddy were both amazed at how warm it is! I ordered Long version with 1oz overfill and although this was not a real test yet, being only around 0C this bag proved super warm. Too warm actually and we had to open up and slept in silkweight baselayer . It is also comfortable enough to keep you separated from your climbing buddy unless it gets gnarly cold i suppose. Great bag I would buy again and again! So light and warm, slept great! (Posted on 6/29/2015)
Spoonbill UL with some extra fillReview by Miriam
Awesome bag. We used it on Denali's Cassin late May (sleeping at 12'000, 14'000 and 17'000), and were super happy. It didn't get too cold (probably around 0F or a bit lower) while we used it. The separate hoods make you feel you're alone in it - cuddling up is optional (in case your climbing partner isn't your boyfriend). The two zippers are great if one of you sleeps warmer. The weight and bulk savings over even a single winter bag are enormous, and I was fine with a Thermarest NeoAir underneath. We didn't have any issue with mats sliding even without attaching them. Sharing a bag seems much more efficient in a cold, high place. (Posted on 6/14/2015)
Spoonbill ULReview by David Rasmuson
This bag is amazing. My wife and I like to ski tour and this has been a great addition to our gear. This bag is very light and warm. We stayed warm in single digit temperatures while only wearing a single layer of thermals. I am confident that this bag could easily keep us warm into the negatives if we were to layer up. However, it is important that you use a 4 season mat because there is no insulation on the bottom of the sleeping bag. This is a great bag if you want to cuddle up to someone special while in the elements. (Posted on 2/23/2015)
