Vested Interest

It is so warm that I just ditched my jacket and was quite toasty in below zero temperatures with just the vest a wool sweater and t-shirt.

The Way Down Vests Were Meant to Be

This is a puffy, puffy down vest. I bought mine about 18 years ago. I am not sure it was called Helios back then, but it is nearly identical. It is extremely warm, light and packable - an incredible garment for backpacking in chilly fall weather or the mid summer high country. I took this vest on a thru-hike of the John Muir Trail in September of 2004. We had really cold nights and mornings, with temps dropping into the teens. I hadn't been expecting it to be quite so cold. Luckily, I had this vest, and along with a light thermal shirt, a long-sleeve heavy thermal shirt, a gore-tex shell, and a warm beanie - and I stayed pretty warm. My buddy looked at me enviously every morning while he froze in his cheap synthetic jacket. I even slept in the vest since my 30 degree bag was at it's limit. The quality and the fill power of the down used in this vest is amazing. And the best feature of the vest, in my opinion? The incredible hand warmer pockets! They were amazing on freezing mornings - and without any annoying zippers to get in the way. Who needs zippered pockets on a vest? The pockets on this vest are brilliantly designed with elastic to keep them snug. I don't get to wear it much these days because it has been partially supplanted by a down hooded jacket from FF, but I break it out occasionally and wear it proudly. It scoffs at those little, fitted down vests I see nowadays. I have it on right now! Great product. Highly recommended.

Best vest ever!

I got this vest for my Mom's birthday after falling in love with the one she got me for my birthday. I have never liked vests because of the way they let cold air in, but this one has made me a believer! The arm holes and waist are the perfect fit to allow freedom of movement but still keep in the heat. They are VERY warm and VERY well made! We couldn't be happier!

An exceptionall warm vest.

This is a great, well sized, exceptionally warm vest. I do wish that they wouldn't advertise their brand quite so prominently on the front of the vest, but it's a small price to pay for the warmth. The shell is a little fragile as I seem to keep finding tiny areas where feathers escape, but overall, it's been great.

Warm Puffy with Excellent Fit

This is my new favorite vest. I now prefer it to the EOS, as it is much warmer. The elastic arm holes and lower opening cinch perfectly around my body to keep the warmth in. Size wise, I ordered a medium, which is perfect for a skinny guy who weighs 150 lbs and is 5’11”. My EOS vest is a small, and I always thought it was on the borderline, so I decided to size up to a medium for the Helios to allow more space for the down to loft, and that turned out to be the correct decision. The fabric is definitely beefier than the EOS line as well. If you’re prioritizing size/weight for the trail, go with the EOS, but if this is an everyday wear piece like it is for me (think walking around down town or waiting in line outside at a restaurant, go with the Helios.
