These Upstride Pants from Patagonia are seam-taped 3-layer highly weather-resistant softshell pants. They are kind of like soft hardshell pants. These pants are designed for backcounty skiing, but are also great for lift skiing, hiking, snowshoeing, snowboarding, ice climbing, and many other cold weather outdoor pursuits. While the fabric has a lot softer feel than traditional hardshell rain pants, they are also more windproof and water-resistant than most softshell pants. This highly versatile piece of gear strikes a great balance of comfort, breathability, function, and weather resistance.

Love these pants
I love these pants! I do not wear them to skin up the mountain, rather I wear them (with a pair of wool base layers) any day that I alpine ski when it's a dry day and above 20F. I love the comfort of the elastic waist and the thin material is so freeing compared to the thick, bulky snow pants I wear on cold or wet/snowy days.
