I run very cold when I sleep. I bought the Ultimate and it's just...okay. (And once you factor in the cost it's really not okay.) Everyone else makes it seem like they can sleep in the Arctic with the window open and it's just really not that warm. I thought it'd be really thick--it's not, it's quite thin--and then I thought well hey, it may still be warm. And no, I still need to layer it with several other blankets. I think it'd be warm for people who tend to sleep with thin blankets in general. But for people who TRULY run cold (ie you find yourself layering blankets), this isn't your silver bullet. Wish I never bought it. Seems like a hassle to package and return.

Ultimate 850 baffle box. Salem Oregon currently 50 at night, in the dead of winter 35-40 at night with rare excursions into the teens. We sleep with bedroom windows open year round. If you get too warm you can just hang a leg out, or kick some of the comforter off. We have slept with a thick comforter for 35 years. This comforter is thicker and warmer than my old one was and we both like it a lot. If we slept with a heater on or with closed windows we would be way too hot. For us there is great pleasure and comfort being toasty warm in a cold room. The quality of my comforter is very good. I think it offers good value for the price. Excellent stitching and fabric. I used the down tracker and it reported that my batch of down tested out at 880 fill power. Yes it is expensive, but you will only cry once.

I have two Feathered Friends sleeping bags and this the first comforter I've purchased. The quality is outstanding and the "medium" weight is perfect for Los Angeles winters, neither too cold nor too hot. I just took the comforter out of the duvet for the first time and there was not any stray down at all inside the duvet -- cheaper comforters aren't that well made. it's a wonderful comforter and I'm sure it will give many years of service just like the sleeping bags. I now plan to buy a comforter for every bed in the house and gift comforters to our boys once they move out on their own.
