The Widgeon was originally designed for the successful American 1990 K2 expedition. In the decades since, we have made many improvements that have increased the performance and reduced the weight to make the Widgeon a go-to bag for cold weather activities from winter mountaineering in the Cascades, Himalayan ascents, and snow camping.

For 2024, the Widgeon gets updated with a top panel of Pertex® Shield Air, allowing for more moisture to vent out during those chilly nights.

ES: Winter & Expedition. Pertex® Shield 15 denier with 40 denier rip-stop reinforcement fabric with water-resistant/ breathable coating with 3 Layer Pertex® Shield Air electrospun laminated fabric.

35 Years and Still Going!

I bought this bag, or at least one called the Widgeon (Long), in 1989 and I'm still using it! I just used it again a few days ago. It still looks new. A very well built sleeping bag! The technology has undoubtedly gotten better, but I have no complaints about my 35 year old Feathered Friends Widgeon! With today's inflated dollars, I paid about $1,100, so the value is a little better now, and I would definitely by one again. Couldn't go wrong with these guys! I got cold once, after breaking through snow and into water with temps at -3 deg. F (-19.4 C), but I survived without being too cold sleeping in a snow cave. Always been toasty warm at all other times. I'm a cold sleeper, and have always appreciated the warmth of this bag.

The warmest bag you'll (probably) ever need!

The Widgeon is my go-to bag whenever nighttime temps are expected to be below -5 C (23F). With a good sleeping pad this thing is seriously toasty. It's never left me shivering and I'll commonly need to loosen the drawstring up or even unzip a little to dump heat in temperatures of 0 C to -5 C I've had it down to -15C (5F) and it was comfortable at that temperature with insulation to spare. The hood has enough puff to it that the pillow isn't needed. Build quality is good. The Pertex outer layer beads small amounts of water off and seems breathable enough. If it's warm enough that there's melting frost or dew the Pertex will let a bit of water through if the toebox happens to be pressed against a tent wall. It hasn't ever impacted my bag's warmth and dries reasonably fast. The Widgeon wouldn't be my first choice in temperatures above freezing- It's simply too warm. However in a pinch I've used this bag in temperatures up to 7C (45F) and it can be reasonably comfortable at that temperature if you unzip and use it as a quilt. While I can't comment on this bag's performance in a hard core mountaineering setting, I can say with confidence that it's been great for the last three seasons of camping and backpacking in the snow. I can't see ever needing a warmer bag.
