Why Choose Feathered Friends Down Apparel?

Since 1972, we’ve been obsessed with one thing: making the best down gear on the planet. Our down apparel is designed, tested, and often built right here in the Pacific Northwest. We don’t compromise on materials, which is why we use ethically sourced 900+ fill power goose down (and we provide you the finer details about the down) offering an unparalleled warmth-to-weight ratio for climbers, hikers, backpackers, thru-hikers, and backyard adventurers alike.

Whether you’re looking for the ultralight Eos for a crisp morning in the North Cascades or the expedition-grade Khumbu for high-altitude peaks, our gear is built to last a lifetime.

Apparel FAQs

Fill power measures the "loft" or fluffiness of the down. The higher the number, the more air the down can trap, and the warmer it is for its weight. By using 900+ fill power, we can make apparel that is incredibly warm but packs down small and light.

Absolutely. We only use down that is RDS (Responsible Down Standard) certified. This ensures that the down comes from animals that have not been subjected to unnecessary harm, and we maintain full traceability from farm to finished product.

We also provide the finer details about the down (such as location and material composition).

To maintain loft, use a front-loading washing machine with a specialized down cleaner (like Nikwax Down Wash). Tumble dry on low heat with a few clean tennis balls to break up down clumps. Never dry clean or use standard detergents, as they strip the natural oils from the feathers.

If you’re stuck between two sizes, we generally recommend sizing up if you plan to layer underneath, or sticking to your true size for a "technical fit" that maximizes thermal efficiency.
