A+++ redesign - Worth the wait!
I've had an original Eos for 10+ years and it has been my go-to puffy for literally everything from walking around town on a cool day to climbing in the Cascades. Was fortunate enough to get one of the new Eos when they released this month and it takes several steps in the right direction on what in my opinion was already a near-perfect coat. I'm a lanky 6'4" and the large fits me perfectly. XL probably would have been fine as well but glad I went L. Definitely recommend the Eos if you want an all-around best in class down jacket.
I own and love many FF items, including the original Eos. When I saw the Eos was going to get an upgrade with the chest pocket and cinch-able hood, I patiently waited and nabbed a XXL in Black as soon as they dropped. It arrived in a few weeks and I immediately tried it on. Nice! It had the same fit in the arms, the same high quality, brushed Pertex Quantum fabric, which I love. The chest pocket, sweet!!! I thought, this is gonna be my favorite jacket! Until I zipped it up. Yikes, what happened? Did I gain a few inches in the mid section? I grabbed my original Eos and tried it on to be sure and it still fit like it did from day one, like it was tailor made. However, it seems on the upgraded Eos, the fit is more of a tapered, athletic cut. For me, this made for a pretty tight, uncomfortable fit around the ribs and mid section with just a T-Shirt on. Not ideal if you plan to wear a base layer and top underneath, which I do with my legacy Eos. While everything else about the new Eos is great, I really wish the original cut was used. Instead of returning this, I gave it to my daughter and it fits her great. Being only slightly larger than the Women's XL Eos. Did I get the wrong size/tag? I saw another person had the same issue with fit.
Almost there
I can't put my finger on it but something just isn't right with the new hood. I think it's too short maybe. It's just awkward. Harness friendly pockets are also an annoyance the other 99% of the time when not wearing a harness. They're so high up it's uncomfortable. And somehow wind cuts through this far more easily than my old ghost whisperer, although I do have a windbreak shell that I'm just too lazy to dig out unless it's really bad. Didn't need to use it as often with the ghost whisperer. But the Eos is warmer than the ghost in most normal conditions, and it looks good. Wish they'd imprint that killer black and white FF mountain range logo directly onto the pertex instead of the plain looking blue/black sewn patch. They sent me a sticker with that black and white logo and its much nicer than the old patch. But that's a minor detail.
Excellent jacket
Best down hoodie money can buy.
Darn
Have been patiently waiting for the new Eos to drop and was lucky enough to score a Large before they sold out. I just received it today. The quality is apparent but dagnabbit! Way too tight around the ribs. Admittedly, I'm barrel-chested (6', 215) but I'm not an XL in anything; this fits perfectly everywhere else (waist, shoulders, arms/arm length). Will sadly be returning it ... it's a five-star piece if it fits you.
