Amazing Coat.
I received this coat for my Birthday at the tai end of Winter. I’ve only had the chance to wear it a couple of days, with wrather around 20 degrees and biting wind and arctic chill. The real feel of the temp was 10-15 degrees. I just wore a long sleeve T under it with a solid beanie on my head. Bottom line. This coat is incredibly warm! The construction is top notch, with superior levels of down fill throughout the coat. Even the hood and face guard are very lofty and warm. This coat is also built to last, and to laugh at anything Winter throws at it. I can’t wait to wear it next Winter in even chillier conditions. I’m never going to be cold again. The style is solid, and the design is very intuitive by minimizing any potential cold spots. Essentially they don’t exist with this coat. It’s comfortable with the hood up or down, and easy to switch between the two options. I can see it lasting 10 years easy. I’d highly recommend this coat to anyone who lives with cold winters. It’s definitely not for mild Winter weather. I’m 6’4”” 240, pretty fit, and the XXL suited me. Theres enough room to be comfortable with another mid-layer, but I doubt you’ll need it. I got it in Blue and like the color scheme.
Outstanding warmth!
First, I need to say that my Rock and Ice parka is 25 years old. It is still in superb condition. When I saw there was only one other review, I felt I had to chime in despite the age of my coat. This is an outstanding winter parka in every respect. The quality is great, but far and above everything else it is warm and comfortable! I am an amatuer astronomer, and when you are standing still, not burning any calories, and need to stay warm, this is the ticket. That said, when temps are in the single digits and even below zero (in the minus teens if you factor in wind chills) and need to shovel the driveway, don't worry. This will keep you warm.
Very well made
So far good, but hasn't gotten too cold yet. Supposed to get to -30 F in a week so it will get a test.
Excellent for Everest & Mount Vinson in Antarctica
I wore this parka for my Everest summit and summit of Mount Vinson in Antarctica. I wore it along with the warmest Feather Friends pants. I was very comfortable and warm. I did a lot of research on the down fill weight of various parkas and expedition suits, and this was the most fill. It is really well made. I highly recommend it. I actually wore it skiing the other day too.
