Quality sleeping bag
I just returned from a four day backpacking trip in the Winds. The low temps at night were 42, 44, and 36. I wore lightweight base layers and thin wool socks and I was never cold, and I’m usually cold. The bag is fluffy and soft and feels luxurious. The zipper works well as long as you don’t unzip it all the way - I had a very difficult time getting the zipper started again. I’m 5’3” with broad shoulders and I had plenty of room side to side, and enough room at the bottom of the bag for my camera, phone, and water filter. My only gripe, and it’s a small one, is that the hood is a bit shallow and I struggled to keep my pillow inside the bag. Overall, it’s an excellent sleeping bag and worth the hefty price tag.
Sheds a lot of feathers
I used the bag for the first time over 4 nights, and handled it carefully. Used it over two sleeping pads (it was cold). On the positive side, I was very warm and the temperature was about freezing, however, a big negative is that all the 4 nights, there were so many feathers strewn across. The website does mention the lone feather sticking out but this was sadly not the case.
Egret UL 20 Medium
Perfect! I'm 5'7" and almost didn't buy this bag because I'm a little claustrophobic and was afraid it would be too short for me. It's not. There is an extra inch or two in the footbox even fully stretched out. For someone with similar fears, I think this bag is plenty roomy for someone up to 5'7". If you're 5'8" or taller, I personally think that's where the borderline thinking would come in. The width throughout is good and roomy. I don't find the fabric to be noisy at all. There is a slight crinkly sound but nothing that would bother most people, in my opinion, unless someone is more sensitive to that. The lupine/purple color is a little less intense in person, which I like, too! Great bag and I'm happy I bought it.
So far, I have only used this bag one night in 40 degree temps so I have yet to completely test it. However, once I pulled it out of the box you can just feel it's quality. With my previous bag I would have to fluff it around in the middle of the night to distribute the feathers as different body parts would start to get cold. That is not going to happen with this bag due to the way it is constructed. One design item that I found interesting initially I now appreciate and that is the snap at the neck of the bag. During the 40 degree night I did not have the bag completely zipped but by having it snapped that kept me from getting askew in the bag as I turned from side to side.
