too big for small people and not as warm as I would have thought

I'm very small - 5' 2'' and 105 lbs, and I've been on a mission to find a warm down coat that will keep me suitably warm around 0 degrees F, which happens ski touring or mountaineering where you are outside all day and it's really cold. I have had this coat for 7 years and so I have been in all kinds of conditions with it. This coat will keep me warm between 30-40 degrees F but that's about it. I usually double it up with another down coat when it's cold. It is also still quite big on me, which doesn't help. I bought it even though the fit wasn't perfect because I love my Feathered Friends small women's sleeping bag and wanted to love this jacket too. The really warm Feathered Friends jackets don't come in women's cuts and sizes and are way too big. Hey Feathered Friends, make a tiny actually warm coat please!! So... I'm still on my quest for the right jacket. Hope this is helpful for the tiny people out there that need warm things too!

Warm wife

I have bought several down jackets for my wife. This is the first one that keeps her warm. The construction and materials are high quality. I highly recommend.

Wanted to love this but…..

I waited a year to write this review. I bought this jacket for a one year bicycle trip to South America. I needed a warm jacket for the Andes. The only thing I ended up liking about the jacket is the warmth. I found the hood had a weird fit. It kept falling in my eyes unless I cinched it really tightly which then made me deal with the long cords. I wish there was a cinched on the back neck like some jackets. I didn’t like the small pockets. Uncomfortable to put your hands in and really missed an inside breast pocket for money. There are not any pockets for your phone or money unless you use the side pockets… but I usually used those to keep my hands warm. Bottom line: it’s a basic, well made jacket with no special features. It’s not stylish at all but that didn’t bother me in the mountains. I won’t wear it around town. I’m 120lbs and bought a small.

Warmth for 40-20F

I am 5’4”, 115lbs, and an XS feels just right. I have tested out the warmth of this coat in a couple different scenarios and this is what I have found. (Note that I usually run cold.) I have used this coat sitting completely still outside in the low 20s F to mid 30s, in the damp PNW layered with snow bibs, sometimes another lightweight down coat, and a sit pad. My verdict is that the warmth is adequate, but not overkill in this use. In low activity, or with a hot drink, I have been comfortable. Sitting 100% motionless, I start to feel chilled after about 15min. I have also tried wearing it around town in 30s F, and it is too warm for me in a car or in stores. My verdict is that it is good for the 40s though the 20s F, but below that I would want something warmer.
