While the inspiration for this bag came from the fast and light climbing styles of our top athletes, the Spoonbill has become a favorite across many outdoor pursuits. The Spoonbill is the perfect solution for the outdoor enthusiast who is looking to significantly lighten their load while not compromising on comfort or performance for two, especially with the lighweight Pertex® Endurance® UL fabric and NEW Dyneema® floor fabric.

The award winning design allows two people to share the thermal benefit of being in the same bag while maintaining the efficiency of an independent contoured hood and collar that can be adjusted with no impact to the other user. Half length zippers on each side provide access without disturbing your partner. The real weight savings comes from eliminating the unnecessary insulation on the bottom half; the floor is comprised of a single layer of non-woven Dyneema® fabric. Use the sleeping pads of your choice on the outside or a closed cell pad can be cut to the interior dimensions.

The Spoonbill is great for sharing warmth and shedding pack weight, but it's not always the best option for couples wanting to snuggle due to the separated hoods. For a more comfortable double sleeping bag for casual backpacking and camping, check out the Penguin or Condor Sleeping Bag

UL: Ultralight. Pertex® Endurance® 10 denier water-resistant/breathable fabric.

Epic bag. But! Longer zippers could be nice.

I’m being a bit bit picky here. This bag is PHENOMENAL. We spent a night at 11,000 ft @ 25 degrees and didn’t even bother with the mummy hoods. I slept head out of the bag. The bottom of the bag is not insulated but I wouldn’t say that’s a negative, it saves a ton of weight and keeps the loft where you want it, above you. This thing is soooo fluffy, I use the hood as a pillow and just bunch it up. I want to test it @ ~10 degrees but haven’t had the opportunity yet. We are using the Nemo sleeping pads and they are a bit too wide to double up. We might cut them down, but I think we’ll just get a double air pad instead and put the sleeping bag on top. This thing compresses down impressively, and I love that they give you a big canvas bag to store it without compressing it too much. Again, this thing is Lofty. We have never been so warm in a bag. Now for the only con I can think of… The zipper doesn’t zip as much as we would like, it make getting in and out of the bags a bit difficult at times. We used this in a tensile tent and it can be cumbersome having to slide out. On the ground, I imagine it would be a bit better. I would still rather slither out of warmth than easily get into something with less heat retention. Life is about trade offs. All in all, a fantastic bag. I don’t regret my purchase at all.

Soooooo warm

My wife and I just got this bag before a Rainier attempt (and successful summit!) and were a little concerned that the bag might not be warm enough. Temps were in the 30s F at high camp and I was roasty in the bag, slept most of the night with it unzipped. We used Thermarest Xtherm pads underneath tethered together with Zpacks pad straps (2 straps is enough for the reg MAX pad width size), which I'm sure helped when we were camping on the snow for warmth but I still couldn't believe how warm the bag was. It's a great quality bag and I really think we'll get a lot of use out of it. We also used a size medium sea to summit compression sack to carry the bag in whilst on the mountain, found it best to compress the air out of the down prior to attempting to stuff it into the sack. The only thing I would change is to have the zippers about a foot longer on each side. I know this would add weight, but having that extra foot of zipper length would make getting in and out and venting quite a bit easier. I would have certainly paid a little more to have a longer zipper as an option.

Great option for ski mountaineering and alpine climbing

My partner and I bought this last year as an option to save weight and space when climbing or skiing. We love the bag and have used it a ton. Build is high quality, and the design is awesome. This allows us to cut our pack sizes down significantly and share body heat. We have yet to take it to higher peaks but plan on doing so. We pair the regular sized bag with the Exped SynMat HL Winter Duo M in the winter and it's been good down to about 0F so far. May try pairing it with the SynMat HL Duo in the summer to cool things down some and save weight/ space. I should note we did 3oz of overfill as we hope to have it as an option in colder climates. Thanks Feathered Friends for the awesome piece of kit!

Spoonbill UL 2 person sleeping bag.

Well made and very warm so far. Getting the pads to work under the bag is a challenge. Most light pads are not rectangular thus there is gaps under the bag where part of a leg or shoulder falls into. Challenge to stuff since air gets trapped in the bag due to quality of down. Working on figuring how to roll air out. Not sure why the company does not have light straps attached to the bottom to control movement of the pads. Will see how this works in real cold weather. Trade off of warmth, sleeping together, lightness vs pad problem, packing, and learning to roll together in a smaller "double size" space. Again very well made!
