Great bag
I love feathered friends, basically the only down gear I buy. Lasts forever and is totally bombproof. Have a front point jacket that is from 1997 and has gone through two zippers and is still performing well. Hoping this bag will be similar.
Proper 20 Degree Bag. Fits Perfect
5'10, 140-ish-pound dude who sleeps warm and on his side. I got a 20-degree Hummingbird named EELWHALE two years ago at a used sale at the F.F store. It was a rental. Despite having been used obviously many times (a few patches and oil stains), this bag has held up great for me. I have taken it to the Uinta Mountains, Gannet Peak, Ranier (camping at Schurman), Granite Peak, Glacier Peak, loads of snow-camping backcountry ski tours, etc. The only time I was chilly in this bag was camping in the Baker backcountry earlier this winter when the temp likely fell to 13-15 degrees F with a breeze, and I was in a tent without a rain cover on. Only complaint: There is no neck baffle in this bag. I don't know if it's just my model that does not have this, or if it is sacrificed to save weight, but it is sorely missed at times. Long story short: If you have a thinner, more athletic frame and use a solid pad with a 5+ R-value, you can take this thing anywhere 20 degrees and above. For most times and places in the Cascades, this bag does the trick.
What a great sleeping bag
I have 7 sleeping bags acquired over 50 years of backpacking and the Hummingbird is finest. The construction is top quality. Unlike the zipper on my other bags, this zipper is a really good design and it does not snag. My first trip was hiking the Big Bend Outer Mountain Loop with the temperature down to 11F and I was comfy (with clothes on since I sleep cold).
Almost perfect! but earns 5 stars anyways
For reference ai am 5’-6” 150 lbs. athletic build. Literally just came back from a backpacking trip to Wayne National Forest where temperatures went down to low 30˚. I tend to sleep on the hot side so only wearing base layers but was kept nice and toasty in the Hummingbird 30. No complaints in the warmth department. Space was enough for someone my stature to allow for movement and turns as I do often change my position during sleep. Packs down as small as my pillow taking little space in the backpack and weight next to nothing as well. Overall, I am extremely happy with the Hummingbird 30, but only wish it had a pocket inside to keep my phone warm when temps hit below freezing as they did this past weekend.
Just incredible! Perfect 3 season bag!
It’s my first 950+ FP bag, it just packs down to nothing. Everything now fits in a 20L backpack for a weekend hike. And it’s warmer than I thought. I think it’s a perfect 3 season bag! I read that it can be snug, but for me it fitted just right. I'm 172 cm ~ 5′8″, 72kg ~ 159lbs.
