I've owned this bag for about 2 years now and it's incredible. I use it mostly for motorcycle camping and backpacking. I use the size XS Sea to Summit eVent compression dry bag and it compresses down to a little larger than a softball in my pack and then fluffs up pretty quickly when I pull it out in my tent. Wearing just a pair of compressions style long johns I can sleep comfortably down to about 30 degrees and with an added sweater and a pair of socks down into the 20's. This is paired with an uninsulated inflatable sleeping pad. I do have another 0 degree rated bag if I am going camping in the snow but it is much larger when it's packed down. This bag is also great on warmer night to leave unzipped as more of a blanket and it's not too warm. My only real complaint is that I wish it had some sort of a collar flap around the opening to help keep out some of the draft around your neck on colder nights. No matter how long of a day you've had it really hard to crawl inside of this bag not smile as you zip it up around yourself!! :)
Cozy and almost perfect
I got this bag for some cold weather hiking on the PCT, and it worked very well. Temps got down in the low 30s, and I was cozy and warm in the bag, paired with a Thermarest X-therm pad. I agree with others who have called out the zipper design, which is excellent, and works very well without jamming. There’s an integrated stuffed roll all along the zipper that lies over it when closed so there’s no heat loss there. The bag is also very light and packs down quite small by stuffing it into the bottom of my backpack. I didn’t get a compression sack for it. I’m a little over 5’-7”, so I ordered the 6 ft model, since I worried the 5’-6” version would be too short. Unfortunately there’s a bit too much air space down around my feet, and oddly not quite enough around the middle where I need room for my arms. I’m also not crazy about the cinch cord around the face opening. I tried it with a small pillow inside, and also with no pillow inside, and I found it hard to get a good seal around my face without feeling choked, it tends to leave gaps on the sides, but these are quibbles really. It’s a great quality bag and it kept me warm and cozy at night. Sleeping in cold weather with a bag like this is no problem, it’s getting OUT of the bag in the morning that’s the problem! BRRR! Thanks, Feathered Friends.
As good as it gets!
Feathered Friends was the first store I visited when I moved to Seattle in 2009. The quality and care that is put into the design and delivery of these bags was shared with me and I knew one of these bags had to be mine. Years ago I got a 20 degree Swallow and recently this 30 degree hummingbird. I can say, without a doubt, that this bag is amazing. It packs down very well, re-lofts very quickly, and definitely holds a true and accurate temperature rating. I recently took this bag down to 34 degrees with a light shirt and a hat and was toasty all night. Between the superior product and the amazing service, I couldn't recommend FF more! But this bag- you wont regret it!
Best sleeping bag in the world
I love it! Very comfy and light weight. I am a slender 1.71 meters guy and it feels exactly the size for me. Nit too roomy and not too snug. As an example, I can't sit inside with my legs crossed baut I am allmost there a bigger sleeping bag would be an overkill gir me.
This is a great sleeping bag, and clearly a step above what around 400/500 gets you in REI. It is very very warm, warmer than the rating would suggest. It’s the puffiest bag I’ve had. I’d probably go for the 30 instead of the 20 if I was to do it again. I run cold and the 20 is too warm as a three seasons bag. It is very light, but the size may give you some trouble if trying to UL with a 40L pack. I have the hummingbird, I’m a pretty slim guy and find the bag plenty roomy even for side sleeping.
